Sourcing and Purchasing of Gold/Silver
We purchase GOLD from two distinct sources:

1. Primary source: We purchase gold from miners who bring in the gold to our refinery in Tema -Community 16, or directly from the mining areas through our licensed buying agents.

2. Secondary source: We recover gold from sweepings from jewellery manufacturing and smelting of old traditional gold trinkets.

Predominantly, the gold we receive is in the form of ingots.

SILVER Sourcing: We recover silver as a by-product of our gold refining process. Cemented silver is processed to achieve a purity of 99.9%

Homogenization, Sampling and Analysis
Gold received is weighed, homogenized and then re-weighed after smelting.

  • We take a drill sample for a fire assay

  • For local miners who demand a fast turnaround, we perform a Specific Gravity (SG) analysis.
  • The SG analysis is a preliminary analysis we perform, with the Fire Assay being the main process we employ for gold analysis as well as using state of art modern XRF gold detector analyzer equipment which gives accurate result of showing all components of metal per each bar we assay.

HIL Gold Export has a modern equipped assay with all the modern assayer equipment Laboratory manned by competent Chemists and Metallurgists.

Refining
We accept clients’ gold at our refinery premises for refining into gold bars or granules of 99.95% fineness. We use electrolytic refining process to refine gold and silver ingots to 99.95% fineness.

Client Refining Procedures:

1. Set up a Metal Account (please refer to our Metal/Refinery Account Setup Guidelines)

2. Walk into HIL Gold Export Refinery with metal

3. Metal is assayed in the presence of Client

4. Refinery Reception Slip (RRS) is given in duplicate-one to Client, and the second retained for office use.

5. RRS contains the following information

a. Weight of metal delivered

b. Assay Value

c. Pure Metal Return

d. Pick up Date and Time

6. Upon completion of refining client is notified by Email/Phone.

7. Client takes delivery of refined metal upon presentation of RRS and signing of Delivery/Pickup Slip.

Quality Control

HIL Gold Export takes two samples of refined gold from each batch and submits for analysis. Samples are taken using vacuum glass tubes whilst gold is in molten state during melting. This ensures homogeneity of the sample taken. For bullion, drill samples are taken from different points to obtain a representative sample. Of the samples taken, analysis is performed in-house whilst the duplicate sample is kept for umpire analysis.

Vault Operations

HIL Gold Export offers insured vault services for our local and international clients for Metal and Non-Metal Account Holders. Charges are based on the assessed value of the metal per day. Valuation will be done on site on the day of deposit.

X-RAY FLUORESCENCE PRECIOUS METAL TESTING
For customers with a sizable lot who want a highly accurate precious metal analysis, HIL gold export use XRF gold testing (X-ray fluorescence) as our onsite assaying method. We operate two XRF machines so we are able to determine results quickly—even with multiple clients.

HOW XRF TESTING WORKS
This unique form of precious metal testing works by bathing the sample in X-rays. The metal then emits light (fluorescence) at an energy level specific to its atomic structure. By measuring this unique energy level, our machine accurately analyzes the purity of the sample within five parts-per-thousand.

THE BENEFITS OF XRF TESTING
X-ray testing is quick, with results available within minutes. It s also nondestructive, which means material will not be damaged or lost during the testing process. Our onsite X-RF gold testing is provided to clients free of charge.

FIRE ASSAY OR MELT TEST
HIL golf export Fire assays are the standard for valuing gold and silver at major mining companies and refineries. In the process, metal is melted down, then the precious metal sample is chemically separated from the other metals. The process is different for each precious metal, using a variety of chemicals during the separation process.

HOW  HIL GOLD EXPORT FIRE ASSAY WORKS
HIL Gold Export perform a fire assay, a sample is melted and mixed with lead oxide as well as a few control chemicals. The lead in the mixture binds with the precious metal in the sample. The entire mixture is then poured into a mold and cooled, because the lead is so dense, it sinks to the bottom of the mold, where it is chipped off and placed into a cupel and melted again. The cupel absorbs the lead, leaving only precious metal behind. The precious metal is then measured against the size of the rest of the sample to determine its overall purity.

THE BENEFITS OF A FIRE ASSAY
A fire assay—or melt test—is the most accurate precious metal assay. In fact, it s accurate between one part per thousand and one part per ten-thousand. We recommend the fire assay process, because it is the most accurate and the best way to determine the amount and purity of precious metals.

ULTRASOUND ASSAY
This assay type uses ultrasound to measure changes in the consistency of a specific material. Unlike other assay methods, an ultrasound assay is non-destructive and does not require melting, which makes it perfect for determining whether an item is precious metal-plated—without damaging it.

HOW ULTRASOUND ASSAYS WORK
To conduct the test, an ultrasonic flaw detector generates an ultrasonic pulse and emits it via a stethoscope-like transducer that is pressed against the test subject. Ultrasonic waves travel through any medium in the same direction until they meet a different material, which causes them to reflect back to their source. The transducer detects any changes in the ultrasonic pulse to find out if the outside and inside of an object are made of the same material. If the consistency of the metal changes, so does the frequency.

THE BENEFITS OF ULTRASOUND ASSAYS
An ultrasound test is a much quicker and convenient alternative to melting or drilling.

It s most useful for catching counterfeit bullion or sorting out precious metal plated items from solid ones—and can detect complex counterfeits like tungsten-filled gold bars. It s also the best option for items like antiques, museum acquisitions, archeological finds and other delicate items that must remain in pristine condition.
